Tuneage
Like a hipster on a 3 shot espresso high, earbuds in, worshipping over his MacBook Pro in his favorite ironically-named coffee shop, I am in one of those moods to start sharing random music I have recently discovered. However, unlike a beany-wearing 20-something with an affinity towards jackets in 100+ degree weather, I will not make you feel stupid for never hearing of these artists. These are all artists that I have discovered while sitting at work with my headphones on, listening to Pandora, Rdio, Spotify or some internet radio site too obscure to mention, and I have one of those, “what is that?”, kind of moments.
Zaz
I found Zaz while walking through Barnes and Noble with my daughter. You know Barnes and Noble. It’s a place to go buy books. Books? Before Ipads, Nooks and Kindles, you had to read pieces of paper glued inside of cardboard covers. It was amazing. When you wanted to read the next page, you just turned it, no buttons required. Back to Zaz. Catchy, fun and exuberant, and I can’t understand a word of it. Zaz is one of the top artists in France, and it’s easy to see why. Check out her self-titled debut album and discover Zaz for yourself.
Hail the Villian
Prepare to rock, and rock hard. Hail the Villian is Canada’s answer to hardcore rock. They are my new favorite band to workout to, especially the hard-hitting, “Pyro” an awesome throbbing piece of churning guitars and simple, but effective lyrics. How could you not run a little faster and harder when lead singer Bryan Crouch demands that you “We go, go, go, blow up the world we know, Like pyro tonight, Burnin like pyro tonight, tonight.”
Jeff Bridges
Yes, the actor. He can sing, and he is really good. His new self-titled album occasional goes into the realm of a little too slow, but songs like “Blue Car” have the perfect mix of country, blues and rock-a-billy and will have you tapping your foot as you sit at your desk.
These are the artists that I have been listening to most this month, but here is the full list of music to give a listen to this month, and don’t worry about wearing an over-sized pair of novelty glasses ironically.
Red Hot Chili Peppers “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie”
Kanye West and Jay-Z “No Church in the Wild”
Blue October “The Feel Again (Stay)”
Public Enemy “Bring the Noise”
They Might Be Giants “Old Pine Box”
And here is the video most passed around the office this month:
